How to Self Care

Caring for your Physical Health

1) Prepare home cooked meals and choose to eat Nutritious Meals even when you do not cook.


2) Sleeping at the same time every night to ensure sufficient sleep (> 7 hours)


3) Go for my morning walk 3 times a week

Overcoming fatigue and breathing in fresh air during morning walk. Go away from the place of caregiving for a while to restore physical and emotional energy.




Caring for Your Mental and Emotional Health


4) Creating a daily gratefulness list

Setting aside an extended time (1 hour) to review how you are doing and what areas of caregiving you have done well.


5) Start a Caregiver Journal. Start a blog to express your thoughts on caregiving.


6) Join the big family of caregiving community. Interact with fellow caregivers through various community resources.

Dementia Singapore, Care Corner, Enable Asia, Touch Community Services, Awwa Caregiver Service, just to name a few.


6) Do not be a people pleaser. Should not feel guilty if I do not devote 24/7 to caregiving.


7) Set aside time for myself to pursue my interest and passion. From Baking, making Home Made Pizza, kumbucha, Growing Brazilian spinach, cooking for family and getting mum to do simple meal preparations.


8) Delegate the care of the loved one to Day Care services, close family members or friends.
