Caregiver's 30 Days of Thanksgiving - Day 7

I have the privilege of attending my 1st AWWA Caregiver Appreciation day (19 November 2022) after caregiving for 5 years.

I was having a difficult week at work and at caregiving. I had went to the event with a downcast spirit.

However, I was greeted by Ying Ying, the Awwa Dementia day centre manager with a smile. I was holding a plate of mee hoon and was taken by surprised that she recognised and called me by my name.

She thanked me for the short sharing I gave one week ago at the Awwa event and we had a good conversation.

Awwa had set up various booths for caregivers and I went to the massage provided by the visually handicapped association. As I conversed with the gentleman who did the massage, I realised that it was simply difficult for him to take public transport, for example, buses as they are visually impaired. Many things we take for granted because we have the sight. These things can take a toll on them as they adjust their lives around their disability.

I left the booth and was grateful for the massage that relieved the tension around my shoulder and neck area.

I also met the staff, Rianna who is very talented in arts and crafts. She also got my mother excited with helping the centre with the various decorations.

The last time I had a hair cut was one year ago. And I was glad that there was a hair salon station where the volunteer hairstylist gave me a beautiful hair cut.

In Summary, I had started the day feeling sad but ended the day refreshed and charged.

Thanksgiving today

  1. Thank you for the team for organising this special event for caregivers. I am truly blessed and refreshed.

Indeed, thank you for your invitation. I hope more caregivers will make the time to attend next year.
