As I watched the Korean Drama “Uncontrollably Fond” I am so sad to hear how the actor Kim Woo Bin who acted the character with terminal glioma was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal carcinoma shortly after the drama (2017)
Recently, my close friend was suddenly admitted to the hospital. Initially, his family and him thought it was brain cancer or stroke. A few weeks had passed and I am glad that it was neither and he is improving with treatment.
As I am writing, my family member is seeking treatment for a painless lump. Though there is nothing conclusive now, there is the struggles of denial, acceptance, uncertainty.
Denial: how can it happen to her?
Acceptance: whatever the diagnosis, we are going to brave this together as a family.
Uncertainty.
One thought came to my mind: do we have to struggle all over again?
This is a journey that we have gone through before. In 2015, when my husband was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer, now in his 6th year of remission.
In 2018, when my mother is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
Yet, I must say, I am praying for mercy, miracle, correct diagnosis and wisdom by the healthcare professionals
I believe this is a common struggle that many of us have gone through. Some of us struggle quietly. As for me, I choose to share because the vulnerability will allow others know that they are not alone. Whether they are the primary caregivers or supportive ones.
I am glad Kim Woo Bin has come back to acting in 2022, in the Netflix : “The Blues”.
For us who have a second chance to live, love, forgive, let us cherish this time and make intentional choices to live this life to the fullest. Keep thriving.
